In 2012 GLWCAP marked World Wetlands Day with a one day conference examining the science, policy and stewardship of Ontario’s wetlands. The event featured keynote presentations by Ron Reid (founding president of the Couchiching Conservancy, former conservation director at Ontario Nature, and recipient of numerous, prestigious conservation awards) and Dr. Paul Keddy (professor of ecology for 30 years, and recipient of the Merit Award from the Society of Wetland Scientists and the National Wetlands Award for Science Research from the Environmental Law Institute). The conference provided an opportunity for participants from academia, government, non-governmental organizations, conservation authorities, and the consulting community, to come together to reflect on the history and future of our wetlands.
The conference was funded in part through the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Canada-Ontario Agreement (COA).
